Detecma chair
Design: Tullio Regge
Detecma is an acronym for DESIGN, TECHNOLOGY and MATHEMATICS. These three values were united for the first time in 1967, the year in which the physicist professor Tullio Regge, renowned as one of the most influential scientific thinkers of the 20th century, transformed a quarto matrix function into a volume with intentionally ergonomic characteristics. It was an epic event to which Gufram decided to pay tribute by putting into production again a chair, which revolutionized the history of design by approaching its planning.
Today, we use computers to create three-dimensional shapes. But think about those years: the era of computers was at its very beginning, as there were still rudimentary instruments that occupied entire rooms and worked with punched books. Microprocessors had not yet been invented, and personal computers were still last-minute experiments in an almost secret department at Olivetti. In other words, it was technological prehistory.
But Professor Regge's intellect was working fifty years ahead of everyone else. And thus a recliner was born, which freed itself from category models and denied any formal definition; a floor chair, half a chair. half a chaise longue, and which gave life to a preliminary image of the way to see the house, as well as an interior design project that would become a mass phenomenon only a few decades later.
Detecma is a project that returns in 2014 with a connotation of disarming modernity: the parametric "open source" mathematical formula is taken from the Dupin cycle, and its gradient colors cover the entire chromatic spectrum in an explosive celebration of complete and perfectly mixed tones. Six versions that, together, turn all the tones in the world.
