Glass coffee table by Noguchi
The famous glass coffee table created by the designer Noguchi Isumi is made up of three parts: the glass top and the two wooden pieces that form the base. At first glance, the table seems rather sculpted.
The concept of the coffee table was created in 1939 for A. Conger Goodyear, director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The latter turned to the architect Robsjohn-Gibbins, to find a manufacturer. In 1945, Robsjohn-Gibbins released a slightly modified version of the table and assigned the copyright for this product. Thus, Noguchi accused him of plagiarism.
In the 50s, George Nelson, who appreciated the designer for his talent and work, contributed to the start of the mass production of this piece of furniture.
